Other Plant Structures Flashcards
What is the cuticle for and how does a plant get it?
Waxy covering secreted by plant cells. Formed: secretion of cutin + wax from plant’s epidermal cells.
Why would a plant cell add cellulose to the cell walls?
Provides structural support
Why would a plant cell add lignin to the cellulose in the cell walls?
Allows plant to stand upright
What are the two fluids that move in the vascular tissue of plants?
water (root to leaves), plant sap (whole plant)
What is the role of pollen in plant reproduction?
structure to protect sperm; carrying the sperm from one plant to another, fertilization
Why is it an evolutionary advantage to produce a seed?
Protects the embryo and increases chance of reproductive success
