Variations of Mendelin Inheritance. Flashcards
What are homozygous traits?
The same
What are heterozygous traits?
Different
Describe genotype vs. phenotype
Genotypes are the letters (Rw, RW, RR, etc) and location for the alleles. The phenotype is the expressed trait from the alleles.
Explain codominance
Codominance is when both alleles are expressed in the trait. They are both present equally in the trait. This is when both traits are dominant (ex: RW).
Explain incomplete dominance
Incomplete dominance is when one trait cannot completely mask or dominate the other. This is when the white flower and red flower becomes pink. They blend together and show both. This uses this same letters as typical dominance (Rw)
What is a lethal allele?
alleles that cause the death of certain alleles.
What are polygenic traits?
inheritance of a trait governed by more than one gene.
what is an allele
a gene variant
document
only one allele needs to be there to have the expressed trait.
recessive
two alleles have to be there to have the expressed trait
hemizygous
this means you only have one copy of the allele. (sex trait stuff)
Name all of the blood types with their genotype
AO, AA,
sex linked traits
An allele on the sex chromosome (color blindness)
sex limited traits
Sex limited are genes that occur in both sexes on the autosomes but are expressed only in the gender
An example of an X-linked sex influenced trait
color blindnes
