Valvular heart disease Flashcards
What is aortic stenosis
Calcification of aortic age, usually associated with age
What are Sx of aortic stenosis
SOB, chest pain, syncope
Reduced exercise capacity, heart failure,
Narrow PP and slow rising pulse
Split s2
What murmur in aortic stenosis
Ejection systolic: aortic, radiating to neck
What Ix in aortic stenosis
ECG can show LVH
Exercise stress testing ECG
coronary angiography
What is aortic regurgitation
Regurgitation of blood into LV, often due to bicuspid valve, IE, rheumatic heart disease, Marfan’s
LV dilation
What are sx of aortic regurgitation
SOB and HF, can be none tho
Collapsing pulse
Acute: pulmonary oedema and hypotension. Can occur with dissection
What murmur in aortic regurg
early diastolic , left sternal edge, patient sitting forward in full expiration
What is mitral regurg
Blood flowing back into LA in systole, often post-MI or IE or CTD
What murmur in mitral regurg
Pansystolic apex radiating to axilla
What are Sx of mitral regurg
HF, AF, SOB, palpitation
Pulmonary hypertension
What is mitral stenosis
Calcification of mitral valve, may be rheumatic fever
What sx of mitral stenosis
Malar flush
pulmonary hypertension
RV heave
What murmur in mitral stenosis
Diastolic
