A
When a separation has occured in the aortic wall intima causing blood flow into a new false lumen composed of inner and outer layers of media

What are different types of aortic dissection?
A
Type A: in first 10cm of aorta. Type 1 or type II
Type B: descending aorta

What are Sx of aortic dissection
A
Sudden onset severe chest pain
Weak pulses
hypotension
diaastolic murmur
unequal arm pulses/BP
can cause paraplegia if ant spinal artery affected + anuria if renal arteries affected

A
HTN smoking Marfan/Ehlers danlos Coarctation of aorta Aneurysms

BP CXR: widened mediastinum TOE CT angio ECG
