validity and reliability of research results Flashcards
what is reliability?
it can be confirmed i the same results can be found in more that one article or the results are likely to be the same if the research is repeated.
give an example of a type of research that will give similar/if not the same results if the same questions are asked a day later?
questionnaires
given an example of a type of research that would mean that a different results would be collected and explain why…
unstructured interviews as different questions would be asked so the results will vary as the questions will have changed due to it not being planned.
what is validity?
it can be confirmed if the research process has been conducted fairly and actuarily, and if the research method used were appropriate for the objectives set.
when does validity decrease?
if you use the wrong method for the study, such as in the canteen and only using observations to find out what peoples feelings are about the canteen whereas interviews would work better here.
how do you make sure that a RCT on health in valid.
you must make sure that all of the same equipment is being used so it is accurate and fair.
