Fluffy comes in with a UTI (E. coli isolate found)- you start her on a round of antibiotics for 4 weeks. Seven days after the end of the Ab treatment- Fluffy is C&S positive for Staph spp. What is this considered?
Reinfection- C&S positive > 7 days after last treatment
Fluffy comes in with a UTI (E. coli isolate found)- you start her on a round of antibiotics, 7 days into the treatment regimen- Fluffy is C&S positive for Staph spp. What is this considered?
Superinfection- C&S positive at day 7 after starting Ab
Why are antibiotics given at night?
Your typical Ab that are used- Amoxicillin, cephalosporin and TMS are excreted through the bladder. SO if given at night- it gives the Ab time to sit in the bladder and start working
