Eligibility criteria for hospice

A
  1. Life expectancy < 6 months
  2. Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance plan
  3. The patient (and family) has made the decision to stop curative or life-preserving treatment in order to maximize quality of life.
    • Note: Not all treatment should be withdrawn. Symptomatic therapies are still indicated. Antibiotics, for example, can still be given if the patient develops an infection. Or palliative radiation for cancer therapy.
