Use of Biological Resources Flashcards
What 2 products can yeast create?
Beer and bread
What animal kingdom is yeast from?
Fungi
Name every part of the yeast cell?
Nucleus, cell membrane, cell wall (chitin), ribosomes, Mitochondria, Vacuole /glycoren
What does a yeast cell not include?
Chloroplasts
Design an experiment to investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of anaerobic respiration? (CORMS)
C - Change the temperature (10 degree etc)
O - Yeast (same species)
R - x10 or x3
M - effect of temperature on anaerobic respiration - counting bubbles
S - yeast species, CO2 concentration, room temperature
What will the results 30 degrees on the effect of temperature on yeast respiration?
Few bubbles as there was some kinetic energy and some collisions between enzymes
What will the results 40-50 degrees on the effect of temperature on yeast respiration?
Many more bubbles as there is a lot of kinetic energy meaning there is many collisions between enzymes creating enzyme substrate complexes
What will the results 60-70 degrees on the effect of temperature on yeast respiration?
Very little to none bubbles as there is too much kinetic energy and too violent collisions meaning there will be less successful collisions and the enzyme will denature
What colour will the yeast be on the Hydrogen carbonate indicator at 40 degree?
Yellow - high amounts of respiration
What colour will the yeast be on the Hydrogen carbonate indicator at 70 degree?
Purple
Give all the parts of a bacteria cell?
Nucleotide, flagella, cell membrane, plasmids, ribosomes, cytoplasm
What is the difference between an animal cell and a bacteria cell?
Bacteria has a string of DNA compared to a nucleus - Bacteria is a prokaryotic
What bacteria is used to make yogurt?
Lactobacillus Bulgaricus
