Usability Testing Flashcards
Usability testing
Takes place in usability labs and other controlled lab-like settings.
Experiments
Takes place in research labs.
Field studies
Take place in natural settings, such as people’s homes, schools, work,
and leisure environments.
Null hypotheses
A null hypothesis is a type of hypothesis used in statistics that proposes that there is no difference between certain characteristics of a population (or data-generating process).
Alternative hypotheses
The alternative hypothesis is a position that states something is happening, a new theory is preferred instead of an old one (null hypothesis).
Two-tailed hypothesis
When a difference is specified but not what it will be, it is called a two-tailed hypothesis.
One-tailed hypothesis
The hypothesis can be stated in terms of one effect.
Different-participant design
A single group of participants is allocated randomly to each of the experimental conditions so that different participants perform in different conditions.
Same-participant design
Also called within-subjects design, all participants perform
in all conditions so that only half the number of participants is needed.
Matched-pairs design
Also known as pairwise design, participants are matched in pairs based on certain user characteristics such as expertise and gender.
