Field Studies Flashcards
Study population
The types of people from whom data are gathered.
Sampling
Choosing the participants to be included in the data athering.
Saturation sampling
Where all members of the target population are accessible.
Probability sampling
A type of sampling involving simple random sampling and stratified sampling
Nonprobability sampling
A type of sampling involving convenience sampling and volunteer panels.
Random sampling
Can be achieved by using a random number generator or choosing every nth person in a list.
Stratified sampling
Relies on being able to divide the population into groups and then applying random sampling.
Convenience sampling
A situation where the sample includes those who were available rather than those specifically selected.
Snowball sampling
A current participant finds another participant and that participant finds another, and so on.
Triangulation
The investigation of a phenomenon from (at least)
two different perspectives.
Triangulation of data
Data is drawn fron different sources at different times, in different places or from different people.
Investigator triangulation
Different researchers have been involved in collecting and interpreting the data.
Triangulation of theories
The use of different theoretical frameworks through which to view the data or findings.
Methodological triangulation
Employs different data gathering techniques.
