What is a radical nephrectomy?
Removal of the kidney, the adrenal gland, surrounding
tissue, and nearby lymph nodes.
What are chromophobe cells?
A cell that does not stain readily, and thus appears very pale under the microscope.
What is a angiomyolipoma?
A benign renal neoplasm composed of fat, vascular, and smooth muscle elements.
What is Wilm’s tumour?
Also known as nephroblastoma.
A childhood cancer that starts in the kidneys.
What treatment may be carried out for low grade/ non-invasive cancers of the bladder?
BCG therapy (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) –> Immunotherapy.
A type of intravesical therapy.
What regions do benign prostatic hypertrophy and adenocarcinoma of the prostate effect?
BPH –> Transitional zone of prostate (adenoma)
Adenocarcinoma –> Mainly peripheral zone of prostate
What reasons could cause a high Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) reading?
1) Age
2) Prostate cancer
3) Prostitis (including infection)
4) Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH)
5) UTI
6) Recent ejaculation or anal sex
7) Rigorous exercise
