Ischaemic heart disease (Hosp 1) Flashcards
What are the different differentials of chest pain via system?
Cardiovascular
1) Angina
2) MI
3) Dissecting aortic aneurysm
Respiratory
1) PE
2) Pneumonia
3) Pneumothorax
Gastrointestinal
1) GORD
What are the layers of a muscular artery?
1) Tunica intima –> Lamina propria and Internal elastic membrane
2) Tunica media –> Smooth muscle and external elastic membrane
3) Tunica adventitia
Which part of the artery wall increases in size to INITIALLY compensate for fatty deposits? (i.e maintains lumen diameter)
External elastic membrane (Tunica media)
What are the main coronary arteries?
1) Right coronary artery
2) Left coronary artery
3) Circumflex artery
4) Left anterior descending artery
What artery could be occluded in a posterior infarct?
1) Right coronary artery
2) Left circumflex artery
What are the risks post MI?
1) More likely to develop arrhythmias
2) Cardiogenic shock
3) Rupture of the heart wall or papillary muscle
4) Heart failure
5) Pericarditis
6) Recurrent angina
7) Increase risk of DVT
8) Ventricular aneurysm (+/- thrombi)
What areas does the Left anterior descending artery supply?
Right ventricle, left ventricle, and interventricular septum (anterior 2/3)
What areas does the circumflex artery supply?
Left ventricle and left atrium
What areas does the right coronary artery supply?
Right ventricle, right atrium, SA node, AV node
What areas does the right marginal branch (of the RCA) supply?
Right atrium (lateral aspect), right ventricle (lateral aspect)
What areas does the posterior descending artery (from RCA) supply?
Right ventricle (posterior aspect), Left ventricle (posterior aspect), interventricular septum (posterior aspect)
