How do UTIs start?
A
E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus (regular inhabitatns of urinary tract) enter urinary system through urethra and are present in abnormally high numbers - higher than 1x10^5 cfu/mL

Steps to enumerate amount of bacteria in urine sample
A
- aeseptically collect sample using midstream collection method
- complete plate count
- if levels are high, isolate bacteria types for ID
- complete antimicrobic sensitivity test
