Ureter Flashcards
The ureter crosses…..to enter the pelvic cavity
Common iliac or external iliac artery
Describe the posterior relations of the abdomimal part of ureter.
- Psoas major muscle at tips of transverse processes of L2-5, and psoas minor if present.
- Gentifemoral n
- Termination of common iliac or beginning of external iliac.
Describe ant relations of abdominal part of right ureter
- 3rd part of duodenum
- Right gonadal vessels
- Right colic and ileocolic vessels
- Root of mesentry (SMA)
- Terminal part of ileum
Describe ant relations of abdominal part of left ureter
Left gonadal vessels
Left colic and sigmod vessels
Pelvic colon and mesocolon
Describe structures by which the pelvic ureter passes
- Fascia covering obturator internus m
- External iliac v
- Obliterated umbilical art
- Obturator n&v
In male, the ureter is crossed by…..while is crossed by…..
Vas deferens
Uterine vessels
Describe func of oblique passage of the ureter in the bladder wall.
Prevents back flow of urine into the ureter when the bladder is distended.
The ureter joins the bladder at…….and opens into……
Posterolateral angles
Superlateral angles of trigone
Describe arterial supply of ureter
Abdominal part: supplied by longitudinal arterial chain by branches from renal, abdominal aorta, gondal, common iliac arteries.
The pelvic part is supplied by branches of: inferior vesical in male, uterine and vaginal in female.
List the constrictions of the ureter
- At pelvi-ureteric junction
- At the pelvic brim where it crosses termination of common iliac artery (at sacro-iliac joint)
- Through wall of urinary bladder (just medial to ischial spine)
Describe the nerve supply of ureter
Sympathetic fiber from T10-L1, sensory fibers from ureter enter at same segments
Describe transmission of ureteric colic
Pain begins in loin or lumabr region (T10) then radiate to groin and inguinal region (T12 & L1) and to scrotum and labia majus (L1)
Describe surface projection of ureter
From transpyloric plane 5 cm from midline to the pubic tubercle.
