External Female Genitalia Flashcards
Mention orifices found in vestibule
- Urethral orifice
- Vaginal orifice
- Orifices of ducts of the greater vestibular glands
Mention vessels of Vulva
Superficial & deep external pudendal arteries from femoral a
Posterior labial branches of internal pudendal a
Veins correspond to arteries
Mention nerves of vulva
- Ilioinguinal (L1)
- Genital branch of genitofemoral (L1)
- Posterior labial branches of perineal nerve from pudendal n (S3)
- Perineal branch of post cut n of the thigh (S3)
LD of vulva is into……
Superficial inguinal LNs
The breast is essentially……..
Modified sweat gland
Describe extension of breast
2nd rib sup to 6th rib inf
Lateral margin of sternum medially to mid-axillary
Describe deep relations of breast
- Pectoral fascia
- Pectoralis major (superomedial 2/3), serratus anterior & external oblique abdominal muscle (inferolateral 1/3)
Why is breast freely moveable?
Because it is separated from pectoral fascia by retromammary space which is filled by loose areolar CT
The nipple is found at level of……
4th intercostal space
Describe blood supply of breast
- Mammary branches of lateral thoracic artery
- Perforating branches of internal thoracic artery (2nd, 3rd, 4th)
- Mammary branches of thoracoacromal a
- Lateral branches of posterior intercostal arteries
Describe nerve supply of breast
Anterior & lateral cutaneous nerves of 2nd to 6th intercostal nerves
Describe lymphatic drainage of breast anatomically
Superficial group:
1. Subcutaneous plexus: drains skin & subcutaneous tissue ex nipple & areola send efferents to axillary LNs
2. Subareolar plexus of Sappy: nipple, areola & parenchyma of breast to pectoral & apical axillary LNs
Deep group:
1. Interlobular plexus: intermediate connection between subareolar & retromammary plexuses
2. Retromammary plexus: lies on pectoral fascia over pectoralis fascia
Describe LD of breast clinically
- Lateral quadrant & center: into ant pectoral group
- Medial quadrant drains into internal thoracic LNs
- Inferomedial quadrant darins into subdiaphragmatic lymph plexus & lymphatics in linea alba & anterior wall of rectus sheath
- Upper part drains into apical axillary LNs
- Axillary tail drains into posterior group of axillary LNs
Some lymphatics in medial part of breast mat pass to opposite breast
