What is urbanisation
An increase in the proportion of a country’s population that lives in towns and cities

An increase in the number of urban dwellers
What are mega cities give an example
A city or agglomeration (urban area incorporation several large towns or cities) with a population of more than 10 million people, Bangkok is one in Thailand with a population of 14.9 million
What is a metacity give an example
A place with more than 20 million people, New York is a metacity with a population of 20.6 million
What is a world city give an example
These are cities which have great influence on a global scale, because of their financial status and worldwide commercial power. London is an example
What is decentralisation
The transfer of authority from central to local government
What is deindustrialisation
The reduction of industrial activity or capacity in a region or economy
What is gentrification
The process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle class taste
What is suburbanisation
The outward growth of urban development which may engulf surrounding villages and towns into a larger urban agglomeration
What is counter-urbanisation
When large numbers of people move from urban areas into surround countryside or rural areas
What is urban resurgence
A government initiative to counter the problem of inner city decline (gentrification). This usually occurs when problems such as:pollution, overpopulation and inadequate housing
What is an enterprise zone
An area in which incentives such as tax concessions are offered to encourage businesses investment

The UK ran a regeneration plan lead by Tony Blair, for the UK’s most deprived neighbourhoods

Any of several organisations started by the British government to develop and improve areas of the inner city
