The increase in the proportion of people living in towns and cities
Where is the rate of Urbanisation greater and why?
LIC’s - because as they are developing more people are attracted and migrating to urban areas.
Why are current rates of urbanisation projected?
Due to industrilisation and economic development in some poorer countries
What are the main 3 causes of urbanisation in LICS since the 1950s?
1) Rural to urban migration is happening on a massive scale due to population pressure and lack of resources.
2) People living in rural areas are pulled to cities as they believe it’s a better quality of life.
3) natura increase caused by decrease in death rates while birth rates remain
What is a megacity?
A urban area with a population over 10 million

4 - New York, Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Mexico City
