Cities with over 10m inhabitant s
What is a conurbation ?
It’s when several cities that grow and eventually merge together
What is a megalopolis ?
It’s a set of megacities, conurbations and urban areas
What is a Site ?
It’s the description of the physical characteristics of the land on which a settlement is built ( height, soil, water )
What is a Situation ?
It’s the connection of a settlement with the surrounding area, relationships to other settlements ( mountains, rivers, communication, transport )

- Dry sites ( badly drained area)
- Defensive site ( hill, rivers, meanders )
- Nodal site ( valley, control routeaways, road network )
- Bridging site ( crossing point of a river )

It refers to the main activities of the settlement and its social and economic development

- Better job opportunities
