an urban redevelopment corporation are private sector companys who set out to regenerate the urban inner citys by improving the land and infrastructure of the city
what is a city challenge scheme
a scheme set out by the government in which citys around the uk compete for government grants in order to regenerate, the city with the best plans are granted the money. this helped the most deprived areas of the uk to catch up.
what are NDCS
new deal for communities are a 10 year scheme set out to transform the 39 most deprived areas of the uk.

the strategies chosen by the government to manage development if urban areas and reduce urban problems.
what were the successes of UDCS
-significantly improved the visual look of areas
-saw businesses migrate into areas
-by mid 1990s they had attracted over £12 billion in private sector investment
what were the failures of UDCS
-they focused too much on the land and not the people, it did little to tackle social problems
what were the successes of city challenge schemes
-the competitons of citys led to greater innovation and ideas
-it improved over 40,000 homes
-created 53,000 jobs
-reclaimed 2000ha of derelict land

-resources were thinly spread over large areas

-between 2002 and 2008 areas saw an improvment of 32/38 indicators such as crime and education
