Q

Tell me more about your title (Comanche Springs Rodeo)

A

The name Comanche Springs was an aquifer of six Springs. The military built Camp Stockton around the springs and would eventually become the town of Fort Stockton. In the center of town a natural spring pool was made around to of the large springs. The springs quit flowing in the 1960s because so many farmers upstream drilled wells that the springs were pumped dry. After 25 years the springs started flowing again in the late winter months.

The rodeo is the 4th weekend in March and is sanctioned by UPRA (united professional rodeo association) CPRA (Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association) and NMRA (New Mexico rodeo association). Slack on Thursdays with the nightly rodeo on Friday and Saturday.
Cadillac Rodeo Company is the stock contractor.
This year there was $31,000 added money. $100 day money each event each performance.
Three sponsors are Pecos County feed and supply, ram country, and McCoy.
