What is Pharyngitis and Tonsilitis and what is is it caused by and symptoms
MOSTLY VIRAL
Bacterial caused by Streptococcus Pyogenes (GAS group A)
Main symptoms; inflamed tonsils, difficulty swallowing, fever, headache
Complications: otitis media, scarlet fever, bacteraceima (bacteria in blood), invasive infection (very rare but life threatening)
WHAT is otitis media? what causes it and any symptoms
Mostly viral
Bacterial caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophiles influenzae
Symptoms; pain in ear, hearing loss, dizziness, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea
What is conjunctivitis?
Mostly viral and also allergic and STI associated
Bacterial; Staphylococcus sp, Streptococcus sp, Haemophilus sp
Treatment; topical chloramphenicol
what is STI associated conjunctivitis?
Neisseria gonorrhea (gram negative bacteria; sever conjuctivits on new born babay Chlamydia
