tonsillar exudate
tendor anterior cervial nodes
absence of cough
hx of fever
centor criteria interpretation
if 3 or more, 40-60% chance of benefit from abx
FeverPAIN criteria
fever pus attends rapidly (<3 days) inflamed tonsils no cough/coryza
FeverPAIN criteria interpretation
0-1 no abx
2-3 delayed abx
4-5 immediate abx
Tonsillectomy
if 5 or more episodes per yr for at least 1 yr
Infectious mononucleosis
triad of
fever,
acute pharyngitis
and lymphadenopathy
Mx of infectious mononucleosis
hydration
avoid contact sport as half will develop splenomegaly
Penicillin with infectious mononucleosis
terrible rash
