5+ headaches lasting 4-72 hrs \+ Nausea/vomiting or phono/photophobia \+ 2+ out of : - Unilateral - Pulsating - Interference with normal life - Worsened by routine activity

Treatment of an acute migraine episode
A
1) Paracetamol + metoclopramide
2) NSAID + metoclopramide
3) Rizatriptan (triptans)
4) Ergotamine

Prophylaxis of migraines
A
Avoid triggers 1st line: Propanolol or topiramate 2nd line: acupuncture or riboflavin or Valproate or pizotifen or gabapentin

- for prevention of headaches in adults with chronic migraine
- should haveheadaches for 15days/mo, 8 days w/ migraine
- should have tried 3 other preventative meds
