Upper Limb Injuries Flashcards
Injuries requiring only sling and transfer tie immobilization are:
Scapula fractures
Clavicle fractures
Shoulder dislocations
Upper third humerus fractures
Principles of the mobilization for upper limbs
Measure metallic splints to the uninjured limb before putting them on the injured limb
Normally splint an injured hand in the position of function
Leave the fingers exposed for circulation assessment
Assess neurological function before and after splinting
Scapula fracture management
Place arm in a triangular arm sling
Then secure with a transverse broad bandage
Management of elbow fracture
Support the limb in position found
Form a metallic splint to fit the contours of the arm from the axilla to past the fingertips
Upper arm fracture management
Support limb in position found
Apply at full arm splint, extending from the axilla past the fingertip
Secure the splint to the arm with a crêpe bandage
Support the immobilize limb with Essling, commonly the large arm sling
