The lungs consist of:
Bronchioles
Alveoli
Pleura
Air passages consist of:
Nose and mouth – upper airway
Pharynx – back of throat, lower pharynx divides into larynx (voicebox), trachea and esophagus (food tube)
trachea – tube extending from larynx to Lungs
Bronchi – trachea divides into two bronchi
In order to breathe properly you need: five things
Brain function to control breathing
Open airway
Air supply with sufficient oxygen
Healthy chest wall
At least one long that can function properly
Signs and symptoms of respiratory emergencies
Cyanosis
Dyspnea
History of trauma to chest
Pain at the injury site
Pleuritic pain
Four criteria for assisted ventilation
Absent or slow (rate of less than 10) respiration
Cyanosis
Ineffective respiration
Severe respiratory distress
What always goes with an airway
Oxygen
