Upper Extremity Week 2 Structure Information: Branches of Peripheral Nerves Flashcards
Median nerve branches
Anterior interosseous nerve: M/S/P to flexor pollicis longus, flexor digitorum profundus (digits 2-3), pronator quadratus
Palmar cutaneous branch: S/P to the skin overlying the radial aspect of the palm of the hand
Recurrent branch of the median nerve: M/S/P to flexor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicis brevis, and opponens pollicis muscles
Common and proper palmar digital nerves: S/P to skin overlying digits 1-4
Medial cord branches
Medial pectoral nerve
Medial cutaneous nerves of the arm and forearm: S/P to skin overlying the medial aspect of the arm and forearm
Medial root of the median nerve: see median nerve
Lateral cord branches
Lateral pectoral nerve
MUSCULOCUTANEOUS NERVE: Lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm: S/P to skin overlying the lateral aspect of the forearm
Lateral root of the median nerve: see median nerve
Ulnar nerve branches
Palmar cutaneous branch: S/P to skin overlying the ulnar side of the palm
- Common palmar digital nerves (supplying digits 4&5)
- proper palmar digital nerves
Dorsal cutaneous branch: S/P to skin overlying the dorsal surfaces of digits 4&5
Deep (terminal) branch: muscles of the hand
Posterior cord branches
Upper subscapular nerve Thoracodorsal nerve Lower subscapular nerve Axillary nerve: see axillary nerve Radial nerve: see radial nerve
Axillary nerve branches
Superior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm: S/P to skin overlying the superior lateral aspect of the arm
Radial nerve branches
Deep and posterior interosseous muscular branches
Posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm: S/P to skin overlying posterior aspect of the forearm
Superficial (terminal) branch: S/P to skin overlying the radial side of the dorsum of the hand
