What should you do with the I/O shield when replacing a motherboard?
Replace the old one with a new one.
What should you remember when replacing a CPU?
Compatibility.
Make sure to apply thermal paste between CPU and cooling system.
What reasons may you have for making peripheral upgrades?
Additional functionality such as USB bays.
Ergonomics for keyboards and mice.
What are thick clients?
These are standard computers.
They have their own OS, applications and local storage.
They are stand alone systems that do not require a network to operate.
They are stand-alone systems.
What are thin clients?
These are typically low end computers that rely on networks or remote servers to do all the processing.
They require a network and usually access resources using a web browser.
Typically they have no internal storage and little local resources.
What is NAS?
Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices are servers that are attached to networks, to provide file-level data storage.
It has a simple OS devoted to file serving.
How do NAS’ typically connect?
Through a Gigabit NIC.
This allows for many connections to the network at a high speed simultaneously.
Some NAS’ will have more than one to help with these connections.
