What is the difference between the three forms of resolution?

A

Base resolution is measured by pixels, by width then height.
Monitor resolution, refers to the amount of information that can be displayed on screen.
Native resolution is the best resolution for that specific monitor.

How is screen size measured? What are average monitor sizes?

A

Width by height in inches.
It does so in ratios.
Common screen sizes are 19 - 24, to larger monitors that are 30+.

What is native mode?

A

This describes when the image sent to the monitor by the Video Adapter Card, matches the native resolution.

What is connectivity?

A

Connectivity is the actual cable/port connection.

VGA/DVI and USB/HDMI.

What does pixel mean? What do they do?

A

It is an abbreviation for picture element.
It is a small square on the computer screen capable of displaying the colours, red, green and blue.
More pixels means more detail.

What is dot pitch?

A

The distance between pixels on a screen.

Lower dot pitch makes for more detail.

How is brightness measured? What is it?

A

It is the luminance of the monitor.
It is measured in candelas per square metre.
Brightness up to 250 cd/m2 is recommended, however in well lit rooms, use up to 350.

What is contrast ratio?

A

The measurement of how white and black a monitor can get.

a contrast ratio of 1000:1 displays dimmer whites and more pale blacks than 4500:1.

What is aspect ratio?

A

This is the horizontal to vertical measurement of the viewing area of the monitor.

A

It is measured in Hz and refers to how often per second the image is rebuilt.
Higher rates produce better images.

A

The amount of time for a pixel to change properties. Such as brightness or colour.

What is interlaced/non-interlaced?

A

Interlaced monitors create the image by scanning the screen twice. the first scan covers odd lines, top to bottom, the second even.
Non-interlaced simply does one scan.
