what is gravida?
a person who is pregnant
what is Gravidity?
pregnancy (number of times a woman has been pregnant)
what is Nulligravida?
a person who has never been pregnant and is not currently pregnant
what is Multigravida?
a person who has had two or more pregnancies
what is Primigravida?
a person who is pregnant for the first time
what is Parity?
the number of pregnancies in which the fetus or fetuses have reached 20 weeks of gestation, not the number of fetuses born. Is not affected by whether the fetus is born alive or is stillborn
what is Nullipara?
a person who has not completed a pregnancy with a fetus or fetuses beyond 20 weeks of gestation
what is Primipara?
a person who has completed one pregnancy with a fetus or fetuses who have reached 20 weeks of gestation
what is Multipara?
a person who has completed two or more pregnancies to 20 weeks of gestation or more
what is Viability?
capacity to live outside the uterus
what is Preterm?
pregnancy between 20 weeks and 36 weeks 6 days of gestation
what is Late preterm?
a pregnancy that has reached between 34 weeks 0 days and 36 weeks 6 days of gestation
what is term?
a pregnancy from the beginning of week 7 of gestation to the end of week 40
plus 6 days of gestation
what is early term?
a pregnancy between 37 weeks and 38 weeks 6 days
what is full term?
a pregnancy between 39 weeks and 40 weeks 6 days
what is late term?
a pregnancy in the 41st week
what is post term?
a pregnancy after 42 weeks
what does the Leopold maneuver help identify?
-number of fetuses
-presenting part
-fetal lie
-fetal attitude
-how much fetus has descended into pelvis
-expected location of point of maximal intensity (PMI) of the FHR (fetal heart rate) on the patients abdomen
what is supine hypotension?
decrease in BP when supine, due to the weight of uterus pressing on vena cava and aorta.
symptoms of supine hypotension?
pallor, dizziness, faintness, breathlessness, tachycardia, nausea, clammy skin, and sweating
what infection is the most threatening to the fetus and newborn?
hep B virus (sti)
What is GBS -ve?
part of normal flora in non pregnant patients. GBS infection is associated with severe, early-onset newborn infection resulting from vertical transmission from the birth canal of the infected mother to the newborn during birth.
what is effacement?
Effacement means the shortening and thinning of the cervix during the first stage of labour
what is cord compression?
interrupts oxygen transfer to the fetus, associated with cesarean births
what is cord prolapse?
cord lies below presenting part of the fetus; can be occult (i.e., hidden, invisible) at any time during labor regardless if membranes are ruptured or not. Long cords have the potential to prolapse and amniotomy ( water breaking
what is dilation?
Dilation of the cervix is the enlargement or widening of the cervical opening and the cervical canal that occurs once labor has begun
what is Occiput posterior position?
position of fetus in pregnancy that can lead to back pain
what measures can u suggest to pt to help manage pain or correct fetal positioning?
lateral abdominal stroking, hands and knees position, pelvic rocking, stair climbing, lunges, lateral position
