Skin becomes increasingly resistant to injury and infection.
Requires special care because of toilet and play habits.

Enlarged subcutaneous glands and increased secretions
Normal changes in skin with aging
Skins thickness and collagen content decrease with age
Elastin declines
Epidermal cell turn over is slow
Problems with thermoregulation
Dry vs. Moist
Skin needs to be moist but make sure crevices and folds are dry not too moist.

Prevention of skin alterations
