Unit 9 : Transport in Animals Flashcards
1
Q
Define Circulatory System
A
a system of tubes (veins, capillaries, arteries) with a pump (heart) and valves (in heart and veins) to ensure a one-way flow of blood
2
Q
5 Features of a Single Circulation System {Fish}
A
- blood flows through the heart once every complete circuit
- two heart chambers (atrium and ventricle)
- blood absorbs oxygen in the gills in lower - pressure
- blood is released in body cells, then back to the heart
- gill capillaries slow blood flow, body receives blood at a very low pressure which decreases the rate of oxygen supply
3
Q
Structure of a Single Circulation System {Fish}
A
body → the atrium → the ventricle → gills → rest of body
4
Q
5 Features of a Double Circulation system
