Unit 9 Flashcards
What are the characteristics of bases
Bases taste bitter, feels slippery when wet, and turns litmus paper blue
What are the characteristics of acids
They tase sour, they conduct electricity when dissolved in water, and they turn blue litmus paper red
Bases are sometimes defined as proton acceptors why is that
Because bases are molecules that accepts protons of H+ ions
What are polyprotic acids
Acids that can give more than one H+ ions
What are amphiprotic molecules
Molecules that can act as either acids or bases
What 2 things does an indicator do
It identifies acids and bases and it can be used to find the endpoint
What is endpoint
A method that is used to find the concentration of an acid or base by using an indicator to find when there is just enough acid and base for them to both react completely
How many H+ ions can diprotic and triprotic acids donate
