Unit 14 Flashcards
What dose heat do to the rate of a chemical reaction
It speeds it up
If 2 molecules want to react together what is the first thing that must happen
The molecules need to get close together so they can react
Why does the rate of a chemical reaction increase with increasing reactant concentration
Because there are more molecules so it is easier for them to get closer together
If one of the reactants in a chemical equation is zero what happens if you double the concentration of that reactant
It stays the same
What do we call a chemical that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without getting used up in the process
Catalyst
If there are 2 reactions, one has a higher activation energy and one has a lower activation energy which has a faster reaction rate
The one with the lower activation energy
Homogenous catalyst
Have the same phase as at least one of the reactants
Heterogeneous catalyst
Dose not have the same phase as any of the reactants
What do you need to do to the rate of the equation when you increase the temperature
Times the initial rate by 2 for every 10 degrees centigrade of increase
How does the rate constant of temperature increase
Exponentially
How do you find the overall order or an equation
Add X plus Y
The order of a chemical reaction without respect to one of its reactants is 3 if you quadruple the concentration what happens to the rate
It increases by a factor of 64
