Unit 8: How are organisms adapted to survive Flashcards
What is the Central Nervous System (Parts and Function)
The brain and the spinal cord
The CNS process information that the PNS gives to it
What is the Peripheral Nervous system ( Parts and Function)
The nerves all around the body
The PNS sends information to the CNS
Which direction does information go through the nerve cells?
Dendrite receive, axon give
State 3 differences between the Endocrine system and the Nervous system
The endocrine system relies on hormones and is transported by blood stream ( Slow acting, effects last longer)
Nervous system relies on electrical impulses and is transported by nerves (Very fast acting, dont last long)
What is a synapse?
A synapse is the gap between 2 neurons that allows a signal to pass between the neurons
Reflex Arc
Sequence of events
Stimuli -> Receptor Cells -> Sensory Neuron -> Spinal Cord -> Relay Neuron-> Motor Neuron -> Effector
