Unit 6: How do characteristics pass from one generation to another? Flashcards
1
Q
Law of segregation
A
law states that individuals have two alleles for a trait, but only pass one allele on to their offspring. A gamete will either have a dominant or recessive allele, but not both
2
Q
Law of independent assortment
A
the inheritance of one pair of genes is independent of the inheritance of another pair. This means that alleles from different genes are sorted into gametes independently.
3
Q
Law of dominance
A
when parents with contrasting traits are crossed, only one trait will appear in the next generation.
4
Q
What is transcription
A
The process of copying a segment of DNA into RNA
