Unit 7 Study Guide Flashcards
what directs all the actives of the cell
Nucleus
what tissue carries messages from brain to body and back
nervous; ex: brain cells
Muscle Tissue function
makes your body move
where do you find connective tissue
in between other tissues everywhere in the body, including the nervous system
the process by which an organism’s internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment
homeostasis
internal body temperature
98.6F
what system makes blood cells
bone marrow
what are the five major functions of skeleton
shape and support, move, protects your organs, blood cells and stores minerals
the bone that makes of the center of the skeleton
backbone
motion of a hinge joint
forward and backward
bone to bone connector / joint connector versus Muscle to Bone connector
A ligament is the strongest connective tissue that attaches bone to bone
what is a newborn baby made of
cartilage
The 26 small bones that make up the backbone are the
veterbrate
soft connective tissue in the spaces in the bone
marrow
why are dairy products helpful
bone health
what does exercise do for the bones
regular exercise is important for maintaining both the strength of the muscle and its flexability
where is compact bone
long bones
how can you prevent osteoporosis
by being healthy
cardiac muscle
heart
characteristics of muscle tissue +definition
cells made to contract and relax to produce movement biceps, triceps
contractility, excitability, extensibility, and elasticity
how do muscle pairs work together
Muscle pairs work together like a team: one muscle does the main work , like your biceps when you bend your arm, while the other, such as your triceps, relaxes to allow the movement. They coordinate to make your movements smooth and balanced.
Why must they work in pairs?
Muscles work in pairs to make movements smooth, balanced, and stable, helping prevent injuries and making movements more efficient.
action of muscle tissue
Muscle tissue makes your body move, keeps you stable, generates heat, and helps your blood circulate.
why is exercise good for muscles
it can improve your muscle strength
reaction of your body potentially threatening, challenging or disturbing events
stress
what systems are at work for you to sense the heat or pain when you touch a hot pain
the nerves in your skin shoot a message of pain to your brain
Job of tissue to organ…more or less complex
Tissue in an organ can have a simple job, like providing structural support or lining surfaces.
why do we shiver and or sweat
your body maintains a temperature of 98.6F through sweating and shivering
ligaments protect what
Ligaments protect joints by connecting bones and providing stability to prevent excessive movement or dislocation.
where are blood cells produced
bone marrow
how does a muscle size change when you exercise it or work it out
When you exercise, your muscles get stressed and develop tiny tears. Your body repairs these tears by adding more protein, making the muscles bigger and stronger over time.
organization of cells to organ systems
cells, tissue, organ, organ system
what makes up internal part of cell
the inside of a cell has a jelly-like substance called cytoplasm. It also contains tiny structures called organelles that do different jobs, like making energy (mitochondria) or storing materials (vacuoles). These parts work together to keep the cell functioning.
what protects the brain
the bones of the skull
types of joints
hinge, ball and socket, pivot, sliding
keep bones healthy
diet and exercise
minerals for strong bones
calcium and phosphorus.
voluntary vs. involuntary types of muscle
voluntary: you can control
involuntary: you can’t control
different systems functions example endocrine immune and others
The endocrine system regulates hormones, the immune system fights off infections, and the nervous system controls body movements.
