Militarism
Desire of a government or people that a country should have a strong military and prepare to use it aggressively.
Pan-Slavism
The principle or advocacy of the union of all Slavs into one political organization or alliance.
Isolationism
Policy of avoiding political or military involvement with other countries.
Total war
Devote all resources to the war effort.
Armistice
Agreement to stop fighting
Propoganda
Information or material spread to advance a cause or to damage an opponent’s cause.
Collective security
The cooperation of several countries to strengthen the security of each to prevent wars
Self-determination
People determine the government without any other nation interfering
Mandate
After WWI, a territory that was administered by a western power..in the former Ottoman Empire.
Soviet
One of the local representative councils formed in Russia after Nicholas II abdicated
Collectivization
The process of transferring ownership from individuals to the state or all the people collectively - like requiring farmers to work the land as a group rather than individual landowners.
Communism
An economic system in which all means of production are owned by the people. Private property doesn’t exist and all goods and services are shared equally.
Command economy
An economic system in which the government makes all economic decisions.
Fascism
Political movement that is an extreme form of nationalism..denial of individual rights..dictorial one party rule.
Totalitarianism
Government control over every aspect of public and private life.
Appeasement
Making of concessions to an aggressor in order to avoid war.
Blitzkrieg
“Lightening war” – a form of warfare in which surprise attacks with fast-moving airplanes are followed by massive attacks with infantry forces.
Containment
The action or policies preventing the expansion of a hostile country or influence..like controlling communism.
Demilitarisation
Reduction in an country’s ability to wage war.

Gu who made the Iron Curtain at the beginning of the Cold War. British prime minister.

US president during the Great Depression and WOrld War II. New Deal program to help out.
Hideki Tojo
Japanese politician who served as prime minister during World War II and was directly responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor, at the end of the war he was put on trial for war crimes linked to the prisoner of war camps.
Benito Mussolini
Key figure in the creation of fascism and became the leader of the National Fascist Party in Italy. Allied Italy with Nazi Germany.
Mohandas Gandhi
Led India to independence from Great Britain using non-violent civil disobedience.
Pol pot
Cambodian revolutionary who became the leader of the Khmer Rouge. His attempts to forcibly create an agrarian socialist society became the Cambodian Genocide.

Served seven terms of president of Mexico..basically a dictator and his regime was unpopular ..but did promote ending political turmoil and promoting economic development.

Mexican revolutionary who served as the 33rd president of Mexico, A wealthy landowner who was an advocate for social justice and democracy..sparked the Mexican Revolution.
Kaiser Wilhelm II
Last German emperor and king of Prussia. Usually considered an antagonist and responsible for WWI.
Arthur Balfour
British conservative statesman who issued the “Balfour Declaration” in 1917 announcing support for the establish of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine which was then part of the Ottoman Empire.
