Mexican Revolution
Revolution started by the people of Mexico against Porfirio Diaz, the president who acted like a dictator. They enlisted another candidate to run against him, but Diaz had him imprisoned, where he later died. LO 1- The political state of the nation was very weak due to internal tension, leading to a revolution that was bound to happen.
Russian Revolution
Another case of a ruler deemed unfit for the job, as well as tension economically and politically. It started right after WWI and led to the creation of the USSR. LO 1: Internal tensions created the need for a separation, one that turned violent quickly.
Causes of WWI
MAIN- militarism, alliances, imperialism, nationalism LO 2: the causes are all connected to each other, mostly through political insecurity and the need to be powerful.
Total War
A war that utilizes all the resources that the countries fighting have, including its population.LO 3: The utilization of all resources allowed for more efficient fighting with backup plans and more protection.
Great Depression
A time period when the economy was essentially down. People were jobless and almost everyone except the high class and lucky families was affected. Caused by overproduction, stock market crashes, and bank runs. LO 4: The crisis shut down many regions for a long period of time, and preparing for another war was one of the only ways they got out of it.
New Deal
FDR’s “solution” to the failing economy. It was a plan that included guaranteed money in the bank even during a crisis, and social security. LO 4: FDR tried to bring the US out of it’s economic hole with his reforms.
Five Year Plans (Soviet Union)
Plans that were developed to stabilize the economy in five years. They were dependent on the fact that the government controlled all of the economies in the nation. The plans were very repressive. LO 4: In the middle of a crisis, the USSR took control of the economy by controlling everyone.
Fascist Corporatist Economy
Created by Mussolini, it was an economy that was anti-capitalism and involved leeching all of the profits of workers to make the country more powerful. LO 4: Control made the leaders believe they could fix the economic problems the region nd the world was having.
Mandates
A grant for a country to take over a previously German or other Axis power territory given by the League of Nations. LO 5: Before the war, Germany and the axis powers had control over their own land, but because they lost, the Allies’ League of Nations now had authoritative power.
Causes of WWII
More external tension, economic failure the effects of the Treaty of Versailles, HItler, Nazism. LO 6: Many countries went to war simply because of their allies and others had to defend their people.
New Military Tech WWII
The atomic bomb, fire-bombing, and total war were among the innovations utilized in the second world war. LO 7: All of these tactics were things that any country at a given time could do.
Holocaust
Mass genocide against Jewish people, and anyone who helped them, as well as other minority groups. Adolf Hitler led the mass killings and blamed the Jews for everything that went wrong in Germany. He tried to “purify” the country by making the population a majority of Aryan people. LO 8: The Nazism, as well as economic crisis caused WWII
Ukrainian Genocide
The genocide of the Ukrainian people was caused by a forced famine. Stalin tried to take over the country and when Ukraine didn’t agree, he took every single piece of food they farmed and shipped them to the soviet union. LO 8: The act of violence created more tension between the two countries, and the population of Ukraine dropped significantly.
