Unit 6 Flashcards
The trained audience-Speaker
Speaker isB part of AVC contingency
one that does the responding
2 categories of verbal Bx
Selection based and topography based
Duplic
Duplication: any response an exact copy of antecedent
ex. echoic, mimetic, copying text
POINT TO POINT CORRESPONDENCE AND SIMILARITY
Does duplic have point to point correspondence?
YES
Selection based Verbal Bx
make a selection to communicate
doesn’t matter what your communicating your action is the same
ex. the other person needs to see the selection to know what is being communicating i.e.. picture, communication device
Topography based verbal Bx
Each response is unique each physical thing is unique
person’s response allows you to know what’s being communicate
ex. signing, vocal, writing-Topography based
Point to point correspondence
When the letters match to antecedent to response
ex. I say ball you say ball, I finger spell ball I say ball
Duplic and Codic have this point to point
Codic
Taking antecedent put in different form
ex. saying and wiring or finger spelling to writing or saying
Point to point correspondance NOT FORMAL SIMILARITY
Mimetic
Mimetic is duplic
it is imitation that is recognized as verbal Bx or communication if not communication it’s just imitation
ex. signing ball to another person mimicking communication VS pointing to eye no communication involved.
Echoic
is duplic
exact echo of antecedent my response is the echoic VOCAL only signing in not echoic
ex. reinforcement general means a lot of things but from sone else (socially mediated)
Language
is classified by function/meaning
-verbal Bx is Operant Bx reinforced by others SKINNER??????how is he involved?
Verbal Bx can be vocal and or nonvocal. If recognized by other as a form of communication it’s verbal b=Vx
ex. sign, gesture, and speaking can ll be forms of verbal Bx
Verbal operant-Mand
Teaching to ask
A-MO=have to want something
Bx asking for something
C-only operant that is specific the reinforcer being requested
Selection based
Response looks the same BUT selection is different
Interverbal
Interpreting/responding to someone else verbal Bx
- usually not always, answering ?’s
- reinforcer socially mediated generalized w/o formal similarity or point to point
Formal similarity
Form of the response is the exact same form as the antecedent
ex I say ball
spoken spoken or written to written=exact form must be the same.
Duplic NOT codic
Verbal operant-Tact
ABC A. Anything NOt Verbal Bx seeing hearing touch, smell Bx-saying name of item C. socially mediated Naming something your tacting
The trained audience-listener
trained audiance and listener
provides the A’s and C’s for the SPEAKER. The person you are engaging in verbal Bx to or with. A LISTENER is going to be a member of your audience (trained)
ex. like a foreign language if they are speaking Russian you can’t understand, so to be an audience you need to understand.
Trained audience has 3 parts
