UNIT 5: Testing Flashcards
What is considered Testing?
Standard examination that allows a judgement or evaluation of a sample behavior/quality
Why do we test from test from a performance perspective?
4
Tests should be valid. What is Validity?
accurately measures what it’s supposed to measure (convergent: field vs lab test and predictive)
Tests should be reliable. What is Reliability?
degree to which produces consistent result (intra, inter and test re-test)
What are the basic rules every test should follow?
3
- Test administration should be rigidly controlled and standardized
- Testing should be repeated at regular intervals
- Results should be interpreted to the player in a manner they can understand
What does the client gain from testing?
5
- Indicate the clients’ strengths & weaknesses
- Provide baseline data for individual training program prescriptions
- Provide feedback, allowing the client to compare results from pre/post testing and assess the effectiveness of the intervening program
- Educational process during which the client gains a better understanding of their body and the demands of the sport.
- The testing program possibly provides info about the health status of the player/client.
What does the trainer gain from Testing?
5
- Results of the assessment become the basis for prescribing an optimal program that concentrates on identified areas of weakness.
- Pre/post testing can indicate the effectiveness of an intervening program.
- Results can help in setting goals for motivational purposes.
- Testing helps in getting to know the players/your client.
- Interpreting results can become a medium for positive feedback and better understanding between coach and
player/trainer and client.
What are consideration that need to be taken Pre and Post (and during) testing?
6
-Order of tests
-Equipment needed
-Environment
-Time of day/timing (frequency)
-Training status of client (age, medical history, injuries if any)
-Nutrition/hydration/sleep
Order of testing
What is the order of testing of Skill related goals?
6
- Balance
- Coordination
- Agility
- Reaction time
- Power
- Speed
What is Recovery?
- The body’s process for restoring homeostasis
- Recovery needs to be proactive
- Recovery is affected by physical, psychological, emotional and environmental stressors.
What is Passive Recovery?
sleep, nutrition, hydrotherapy, massage
What is Active Recovery?
stretching/yoga, self myofascial release, flush
