During 1837, what is happening to the economy of the United States?
The Panic of 1837: At the time, the most severe financial crisis and depression in American history, unemployment rates reached an all-time high.
What happened in the Panic of 1837?
The banks were giving out loans to Europe, who wasn’t returning them. People ran to banks to see if they have their money, which they didn’t. Banks have to be barred, even closed down, too many people scared for their money.
What is Rugged Individualism?
Indicates that an individual is self-reliant and independent from outside.
Who was apart of the 1st wave of expansion?
Hunters, Trappers (trapped animals for fur), Prospectors (miners)
Why is it likely that hunters, trappers, and prospectors were a part of the 1st Wave?
Necessary to start a society. All of them can live on their own.
How can those in the 1st wave be seen as ‘rugged Individualists’?
These people can be defined as ‘rugged individualists’ because they don’t need the government, politics, or society to provide for themselves.
