Psychosexual Stages: Oral Stage

A

Focused on the mouth
Sucking, eating, drinking.
Related to trust and security.
Positive environment = “I am worthy” - “I can trust others”
Negative environment = “I cannot trust others, I must take”
Fixation = excessive talking, eating smoking, drinking.

A

Focused on anus and urethra.
Potty training.
About autonomy (control or be controlled)
Positive = “I am securely in charge, but can let others be in charge without being threatened”
Negative = “I must control everyone” or “I cannot set boundaries” also maybe “others should clean up my mess”

Psychosexual Stages: Oedipal Stage

A

Focuses on Genitals
Deals with Jealousy and Competition.
Kids realize they are not centre of the world.
Positive = “I am an individual. Don’t need to be jealous or need validation.”
Negative = “I depend on a other for everything.” or “I must be in spotlight.” Also needing validation or “partner poaching”
