Nursing goes through a framework of profession self regulation that has the ability to inform and influence the implementation of health policies. To encourage for better quality care
What are the responsibilities of nurses as self regulated professionals?
To work autonomously and in collaboration with everyone to achieve optimal levels of health.
To ensure they have the necessary knowledge, judgement, attribute, and skills for safe and competent care
What are the mandates for regulatory bodies?
Works to protect the public through principles of good practice, prevent poor practice, and intervening unacceptable practice. Making sure RNs are safe, competent, and ethical practitioners [Registration and Licensure]

What are the mandates for unions?
To ensure safe practice environments. Provide consistent collective voice for RNs. Ensure best practice research

To protect nurses and speak on behalf of the profession
