Dimensions of holiness
1.god and shares gods own life. All creation is holy. We are holy because we are made in the likeness of god.
- Something is holy when it is concentrated to god.
Consecrated- set apart for the service of god.
3.we are holy when we are clean and pure of sin.
Holiness
to be set apart for gods service, to live a morally good life , to be a person of prayer, and to reveal gods love to the world.
-we are called to this state because we are Christians
What are the tools to help us train for holiness.
Intellect and free will, grace, self reflection, church.
Intellect
helps us see and process the natural order that god has created for the world. It helps us weigh decisions and calculate moral outcomes.
Free will
the ability to allows us to make those decisions with our whole heart and mind
Grace
a supernatural gift from god to respond to gods love and restore our sinful nature.
Self reflection
also known as interiority. The practice of developing self examination to process past spiritual triumphs and mistakes
The church
supports its members by collectively trying to reach the goal of holiness.
Why we pray
prayer is how we communicate with god
Prayer
lifting up ones hearts and mind to god, in praise, petition, thanksgiving, and intercession.
Praise
communicating with god about his glory and majesty
Petition
communicating with god about things that you would like to have, or would like to have happen to you.
Thanksgiving
communicating with god and thanking him for all that he has done for us
Intercession
communicating with god about things you would like to have happen for other people
Listening
When we listen we give god a chance to talk to us
- This can seem weird because there is not audible sound
- we need to give god space to reach us. This takes practice.
