• God animates the universe, like we animate our
bodies.

Relativism
The belief that knowledge, truth and morality
exist in relation to culture, society, or historical
context, and are not absolute.
Arguments for relativism
We are ‘trained’ by our culture and the time in history in
which we live.
We have our individual DNA and genetic make up and
we are biologically differentr, therefore we will make
decisions differently.
Our parents / primary care givers have raised us with
particular beliefs and practices passed on to them.
Implications for relativism
There is no God
Personal opinion can never be questioned
All decisions and actions can be justified on a personal
level.
Problems with relativism
Relativism is self-refuting.
Relativism allows conflicting truths.
Personal opinion doesn’t equal proof.
Moral relativism
When we allow personal opinions to decide what
is right, what is wrong and what we should do.
Basically what is the creed
A list of Christians absolute truths
Describe the crooked line idea
We wouldn’t know it was crooked if we didn’t have a straight line to compare it to

Even though a painter pours his heart and soul into the painting if the painting was destroyed he would still be okay.
Sincere morality
doing what you know is right
Legalistic morality
following the law just not to get in trouble, however not knowing why
Why do we do the food drive
Jesus told us to care for one another

What do the Catholic social teachings teach us
why we serve the church
- roofed back to the Old Testament
- models the teachings and lessons of god
- brings our faith to life.
Self indulgence and self desire…
They go hand in hand you need one to have the other
What should we strive for…(in a desire standpoint)
