Unit 4 Lesson 1 Flashcards
Weather
The condition of earth’s atmosphere at a certain time and place
Temperature
A measure of how hot or cold something is
Humidity
The amount of water vapor in the air
Relative humidity
The amount of water vapor in the air compared to the amount of water vapor needed to reach saturation
When air is saturated, the rates of condensation and evaporation are equal. Saturated air has a relative humidity of 100%
Dew point
The temperature at which the rate of condensation and evaporation are equal
Precipitation
Any form of water that falls to earth from the clouds
Air pressure
The force of air molecules pushing on an area
Air pressure and density both decrease with altitude ( the higher you go)
Wind
The air that moves horizontally or parallel to the ground
Anemometer- measures wind speed
Wind Vane - measures wind direction
Visibility
A measure of the transparency of the atmosphere
The way we describe how far we can see
