Unit 4 Lesson 2 Flashcards
Cloud
A collection of small water droplets or ice crystals that are suspended in the air
Clouds are visible because water droplets and ice reflect light
Dew Point
The temperature at which the rate of condensation equals the rate of evaporation
Stratus Clouds
The lowest clouds in the atmosphere
They are thin and flat, and their edges are not clearly defined. They are often gray
They give light rain or drizzle
Example: fog
Cumulus Clouds
They are thick and puffy on top and generally flat on the bottom
They have well-defined edges and can change shape
Can be fair weather or produce severe weather
Cirrus Clouds
They look feathery, and their ends curl. They are white
Form high in the atmosphere and are made of ice crystals
Do not produce precipitation
What are the types of clouds based on altitude?
Low clouds
Middle clouds
High clouds
Clouds of vertical development
Fog
Forms when moist Air at or near Earth’s surface cools to the Dew Point
Water droplets or ice crystals from nuclei
What are the three cloud shape?
Stratus clouds
Cumulus clouds
Cirrus clouds
