Q
  1. Explain the terms non-representational and non-objective art. Name works of art from the Unit outline that match these terms. Which type are Rothko’s Color-field paintings?
A

Non-representational art defines art with no recognizable forms and is not strictly geometric, while non-objective art is a type of abstract art that is usually geometric and aims to convey a simplicity and purity, without any reference to the natural world.

For example, Kandinsky’s Improvisations are non-representational art and Mondrian’s Composition with Yellow, Red, and Blue was a non-objective art.

Abstract expressionism is a type for Rothko’s color-field paintings.

Q
  1. If you were a who painted abstract artist, would you emphasize shapes and geometry or color and lines to draw out an emotional response from the viewer? Is there a place or object you would focus on to produce a series of paintings like Cezanne, Mondrian, Rothko, and O’Keeffe did?
A

If I was a painted abstract artist, I would rather do both because it helps me thinking of my artistic thoughts to create something for my viewers.

I would focus on object to produce a series of paintings the way like the past artists did because it is too easy.

Q
  1. After studying traditional art from the Renaissance to modern abstract art of the 20th century, what do you think makes a work of art …important …meaningful …memorable? What is important - technique, visual accuracy, color, subject, the artist’s personal commentary, or innovation? I know there is not just one answer, but what stands out to you?
A

I think that making a work of art so memorable because it is so original that it overwhelms us by its power to stimulates understanding of relationships and connections with others, inspires insights about society and history, and spiritual, religious, or insights about the nature of existence.

In importance, what stands out to me were technique, visual accuracy, and color to express individual freedom through a bold form of
abstraction.

Q
  1. Explain why all the artists in Unit 4 chose to create art in their preferred style. What are the ideas or reasons that led to that style of art?
A

All the artists in 20th century chose to create art because they preferred to look forward instead of backward and experiment with new artistic choices rather than relying on old methods.

The ideas that led to Expressionism were images, designs, and subjects came from their subconscious rather than from the external visual world.

In my opinion, the giant paintings of Coke bottles and Trowels were considered a founding painting of the pop art movement.

I think modern art was saying about modern culture that they produced art without personal commentary.
