Unit 3 - Module 1 Flashcards
What is a network?
A group of connected devices
What’s a Local Area Network? (LAN)
A network that spans a small area like an office building, school or a home.
What is a Wide Area Network? (WAN)
A network that spans a large geographic area like a city, state, or country.
What is a Hub?
A network device that broadcasts information to every device on the network.
What is a switch?
A device that makes connections between specific devices on a network.
( Rather than broadcasts to every device on the network )
What is a router?
A network device that connects multiple networks together.
What is a Modem?
A device that connects your router to the internet and brings internet access to the LAN.
What are Virtualization tools?
Pieces of software that perform network operations.
What is Cloud Computing?
Remote servers, application, and network services that are hosted on the internet.
What is Software as a service (SaaS)
Is a software suites operated by the CSP that a company can use remotely without hosting the software.
What does CSP stand for?
Cloud Service Provider
ie - iCloud
What is Infrastructure as a service (Iaas)?
Refers to the use of virtual computer components offered by the CSP.
What is Platform as a service (PaaS) ?
Refers to tools that application developers can use to design custom applications for their company.
What are the 3 benefits of Cloud computing and software-defined networks?
1) Reliability ( Employees can access data consistently with minimal effort )
2) Cost ( Cheaper )
3) Scalability ( Don’t have to buy physical upgrades )
What is a Data packet?
A basic unit of information that travels from one device to another within a network.
What is Bandwidth?
The amount of data a device receives every second.
What is Speed?
The rate at which data packets are received or downloaded.
What is Transmission Control Protocol? (TCP)
An internet communication protocol that allows two devices to form a connection and stream data.
What is Internet Protocol? (IP)
Used for routing and addressing data packets as they travel between devices on a network.
What is a Port?
Software-based location that organizes the sending and receiving of data between devices on a network.
What does the TCP/IP model framework do?
Visualizes how data is organized and transmitted across the network.
How many layers or there in the TCP/IP model? What are they?
1) 4 Layers
2)
Network access layer
Internet Layer
Transport Layer
Application Layer
What is an Internet Protocol (IP) Address?
A unique string of characters that identifies the location of a device on the internet.
What is a IPV 6 address? How many characters are there in it?
New IP address used since the population of the world grew.
There are 32 characters for a IPV 6 address.
What’s a MAC address?
Unique identifier assigned to devices on a network.
ie) iPhone, printers, computers
