Unit 3 list 2 Cell Cycle LLC Flashcards
Anaphase
the stage of mitosis after the process of metaphase, when replicated chromosomes are split and the newly-copied chromosomes are moved to opposite poles of the cell.
Cancer
A disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body.
Cancer Checkpoints
Checkpoints that help keep immune responses from being too strong and sometimes can keep T cells from killing cancer cells.
Cell Cycle
the sequential series of events that take place in a cell that causes it to divide into two daughter cells.
Cell differentiation
the process in which a stem cell changes from one type to a differentiated one.
Centrioles
a cylindrical organelle composed mainly of a protein called tubulin.
Centromere
The centromere links a pair of sister chromatids together during cell division.
Chromatid
one half of a duplicated chromosome.
Chromatin
a complex of DNA and protein found in eukaryotic cells.
Chromosomes
thread-like structures located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells.
Cytokineses
The stage were the cell divides the cytoplasm of a parental cell into two daughter cells
Interphase
The stage in the cell cycle where DNA is replicated and the cell grows
Metaphase
The stage in the cell cycle where cell’s chromosomes align themselves in the middle of the cell through a type of cellular “tug of war.”
Mitosis
a process of cell duplication
Nucleolus
An area inside the nucleus of a cell that is made up of RNA and proteins; it is where the ribosomes are made
